COSTAATT’s School of Workforce Enhancement and Development (SWED) is committed to opening doors by providing expanded access to educational opportunities and experiences at COSTAATT.  With both credit- and non-credit-based options, SWED offers a variety of short-term, flexible programmes focused on skills and professional development, academic preparation, and foreign language services.  The School serves a diverse population ranging from individuals seeking alternative paths to tertiary education to those seeking to upskill personally or professionally, and business enterprises seeking to support and develop their human resources.

 

The School is supported by the other five (5) academic schools of the college.  As one of the six (6) schools within the College, SWED provides credit and non-credit, micro-credentials and continuing education courses as well as professional development programmes. Our year-round operations and multiple modes of delivery provide a gateway to lifelong learning for those aged 14 to 70. SWED is committed to leading change and transformation in Trinidad and Tobago and within the Caribbean through workforce development in many disciplinary areas, encouraging persons to stay current with their workplace needs, thereby improving workplace knowledge, competence and performance.

 

Through the School of Workforce Enhancement and Development, students can earn PDUs, certificates, diplomas, graduate diplomas, and professional relicensure.  The main focus of the school is to broaden access to continuing education and professional development opportunities and to open the doors of COSTAATT to a diverse range of adult students.

The COSTAATT Upskilling Academy provides training and development opportunities to improve employees’ skill sets, enabling employment, re-employment, and advancement in the workplace. The Upskilling Academy aims to meet the growing demand for workforce-ready skills among graduates and employees with formal education. The Upskilling Academy provides practical training and technical skills, as well as business incubation and acceleration support, enabling young entrepreneurs to succeed in start-up enterprises.

The Translation and Interpreting Centre – As an official agent recognised by the Government of Trinidad and Tobago, the Translating and Interpreting Services (T&I) Centre provides a wide array of translation and interpretation services at local and regional levels. Our clients include corporate entities, government organisations and individuals. Official translation services include English, Dutch, French, German, Portuguese, and Spanish.

 

The Prior Learning and Assessment Recognition (PLAR) Unit – This Unit works with students to assist them with documenting their informal learning experiences, toward award of transferrable credits in their programme of study. Coming soon, the general public will also be able to convert experiential learning to college credit for use with employers and other tertiary institutions.
