Programme Description

This course provides teachers, parents and caregivers with the knowledge and skills that are necessary for sourcing, creating and using appropriate assistive technologies for teaching and managing children with physical disabilities. It explores a variety of challenges that children with physical disabilities face and provides solutions for each of these challenges. It focuses on technologies and strategies needed to foster self-confidence and independence as vehicles for enabling children to participate in intellectual, social, creative and physical activities. Students will therefore acquire strategies to support and encourage children to move, perform manual tasks and participate in life’s activities. Since physical disabilities cause various levels of ranging from limitations in stamina to paralysis, the full range of disabling conditions and the appropriate supports will be explored.
