Advanced Diploma in Vector Control
School of Workforce Enhancement and Development
Upskilling Academy
Programme Description
The Advanced Diploma in Vector Control programme is aimed at equipping practicing public health inspectors with the knowledge and skills required to assume a role in monitoring, studying, investigating and seeking to address the health hazards in terms of vector borne diseases in communities and the region as a whole. The programme exposes participants to the various types of vectors as well as the key components of planning and implementing a vector control plan for any community within which they operate. This phenomenal spread of vector borne diseases to new areas has been as a result of climate change, intensive farming with poor irrigation, deforestation, population movements, rapid unplanned urbanization, and increases in international travel and trade (WHO, 2014). This programme therefore prepares the public health inspector to understand the spread of vector borne diseases and plan mitigate measures to prevent such from occurring. Additionally, currently world trends are used to equip participants to create integrated vector management approaches.
