Programme Description

This programme equips students with the skills necessary for success in administrative and clerical roles, emphasising proficiency in typing, shorthand, and transcription. By the end of the programme, students will demonstrate efficient touch-typing skills, achieving a minimum words-per-minute (WPM) speed of 60 to 80 WPM with a focus on accuracy. The curriculum includes precise keyboarding techniques, mastery of shorthand writing (Pitman), and the ability to transcribe shorthand notes swiftly and accurately. Additionally, students develop listening and comprehension skills for transcribing spoken words into written text, as well as gain proficiency in word processing software, and learn time-saving techniques like keyboard shortcuts. The courses emphasise formatting principles for professional documents, creating visually appealing content, and enhancing written communication skills for business contexts. Furthermore, students improve time management by prioritising and organising workloads effectively, fostering productivity in both typing and shorthand tasks.
Requirements
Three (3) CSEC (CXC)/GCE passes, including English Language at Grade I, II and III.
Applicants with either A/O Level pass in General Paper, English Literature CAPE/A’ Level, and/or a foreign language, together with keyboarding skills will be considered an asset in admissions decisions for the programme, and may receive advanced standing in the programme.
