Programme Description

This programme prepares the Public Health Inspector for his/her role in monitoring food safety practices in the food industry; educating food vendors, food producers/manufacturers, restaurants and groceries on food safety and hygiene practices; granting of licenses to food sellers to operate; and enforcing legislation related to food sale and distribution.
Requirements
Minimum five (5) CSEC/GCE O’ Level subjects, inclusive of English A and Mathematics, Grades 1,2,3* or A, B, C. *Grade 3 accepted if attained in June 1998 and beyond.
An Associate in Applied Science in Environmental Health degree or a NIHERST Diploma in Public Health.
Mature Entry: Applicants 25 years of age and over, with a minimum of 5 years’ relevant work experience are also be considered for admission. Such candidates must submit a detailed curriculum vita with an application for admission. Candidates who possess extensive work experience and have not met these academic pre-requisites will be interviewed and considered on a case-by-case basis. The academic department may also conduct interviews to determine the candidate’s readiness to pursue this programme.
Experience as a Public Health Inspector/Public Health Officer will be an asset.
