Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago – September 9, 2025
On Monday September 8, at 10:00 a.m., the College of Science, Technology and Applied Arts of Trinidad and Tobago (COSTAATT) convened a meeting at its City Campus to clarify the status of the Advanced Certificate in Nursing Assistant programme. The meeting was chaired by Dr. Keith Nurse, President of COSTAATT, and attended by members of the College’s executive team.
In attendance were the President of the Nursing Council of Trinidad and Tobago, Mr. Corey George, along with members of his executive team and the Council’s Board, including Ms. Sherma Alexander- Campbell, National Administrator Nursing Services, Ministry of Health and ex-officio member to the Council’s Board. Also present was Mr. Curtis Floyd, Executive Director of the Accreditation Council of Trinidad and Tobago (ACTT).
COSTAATT confirmed that it has consistently followed all due processes, maintaining written communication with both the ACTT and the Nursing Council since February 2024, when the programme proposal was submitted. Programme approval was granted by the ACTT in November, 2024, and COSTAATT has submitted all required curriculum documentation and several revised versions to the Nursing Council, based on feedback from the Council.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the Nursing Council gave the assurance that their Education Committee will continue their review of these submissions, with the aim of reaching a decision as soon as possible. Both parties also pledged to continue working together as partners, in the interest of our primary stakeholders, the students who will benefit from training for this essential category of nursing personnel.
COSTAATT reaffirms its commitment to collaborating with the Nursing Council of Trinidad and Tobago, the Accreditation Council of Trinidad and Tobago, the Ministry of Tertiary Education and Skills Training, and other stakeholders to strengthen national workforce development in the healthcare sector. The College remains dedicated to ensuring the highest standards of academic quality and regulatory compliance while supporting the country’s urgent need for skilled healthcare personnel.
