Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago – September 20, 2024 – The College of Science, Technology and Applied Arts of Trinidad and Tobago (COSTAATT) and the EarthMedic/EarthNurse Foundation for Planetary Health are pleased to announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on initiatives related to environmental health and sustainability.

The MoU was signed on September 19, 2024, at the COSTAATT Main Campus in Chaguanas. This partnership aims to leverage the expertise of both organizations to raise awareness, promote sustainable practices, and address the health impacts of human-caused climate change within the health fraternity.

COSTAATT’s School of Environment, Circular Economy and Sustainability will lead the partnership and work to create awareness and support to healthcare professionals, including their students and alumni.  EarthMedic/EarthNurse, with its international experience in partnering with higher educational institutions for training, research and regional conferences, is excited to collaborate with COSTAATT on this important initiative.

“As human-caused climate change advances, with increased heat and extreme weather, adverse impacts on people’s physical and mental health and health services are also increasing, especially on low-income families, women, young children and older adults. These include heat illness, dengue fever, food and water insecurity, asthma and allergies, and worsening of chronic non-communicable diseases. Working together to advocate for change, deliver training and conduct research to build community resilience is critical to reduce the adverse impacts of climate on health.” Dr. James Hospedales, Founder EarthMedic/EarthNurse

The partnership between COSTAATT and EarthMedic/EarthNurse Foundation marks a significant step towards promoting environmental health and sustainability in Trinidad and Tobago. Through joint efforts, the organizations will work to educate healthcare professionals, raise public awareness, and contribute to a healthier and more sustainable future.
