The School of Environment, Circular Economy and Sustainability aims to drive a transition to a sustainable, circular future through workforce-ready education, applied research, and innovation that tackle urgent environmental challenges.

The school bridges policy, practice, and industry by equipping learners, organisations, and communities with the skills and solutions needed to build economic resilience, reduce waste, and advance sustainable development, delivering more than education—it delivers transformation, building the capacity, networks, and solutions for a cleaner, more resilient Caribbean.

Departments

The Department of Natural and Life Sciences provides students with a strong, interdisciplinary foundation in the biological, chemical, and physical sciences. We support both specialised degrees in Biology and core science education across the College. Our programmes blend solid academic preparation with hands-on laboratory work, field experiences, and authentic opportunities for undergraduate research. Through these experiences, students build curiosity, technical competence, and the scientific literacy needed to thrive in today’s STEM-driven world.

Through engaging coursework, personalised academic advising, and comprehensive research training built into both our Associate and Bachelor’s degree programmes, we prepare graduates for seamless transfer into advanced study, entry into health science and environmental careers, and progression into medical, dental, veterinary, or research pathways.

Grounded in a history of delivering essential science education for the entire College, the department maintains its commitment to excellence in teaching and learning. Our students graduate not only with strong scientific knowledge but with the analytical, communication, and leadership skills required to make meaningful contributions in their fields and communities.

In 2022, the Department proudly embraced a new identity as the Environmental and Sustainability Studies Department, reflecting our college’s vision of empowering every student to engage with the transformative concept of sustainability—whether through the circular economy, innovative technologies, or the stewardship of our shared environments.

This reimagining is more than a name change; it is a commitment to preparing students to become leaders who shape a healthier, more resilient future. Our graduates are equipped to drive national progress in areas such as sustainable water and wastewater management, occupational safety and health, and the thoughtful integration of natural and built environments.

With creativity and purpose, they are also advancing the use of cutting-edge tools like geographic information systems, opening new pathways for innovation across emerging sectors of the economy.
In every endeavor, our students are not only learning about sustainability—they are becoming the changemakers who will define it.

TESTIMONIALS

“Looking back, the elements of my degree that have had the most lasting positive impact are the strong grounding in core sciences, the hands-on laboratory experience, and the research opportunities that sharpened my analytical and problem-solving skills. These not only deepened my understanding of biological concepts but also built discipline, perseverance, and attention to detail—qualities that continue to benefit me in both academic pursuits and professional development.”

TESTIMONIALS

“The courses in my Biology (Pre-med) programme provided me with a strong foundation in core sciences such as biology, chemistry, and anatomy. The emphasis on laboratory work strengthened my technical skills and allowed me to apply theoretical knowledge in practical settings. In addition, research-based assignments encouraged critical thinking and problem-solving, which are essential for both advanced academic work and professional practice.”
