Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs Encourages COSTAATT Healthcare Training Students

Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago – The Honourable Phillip Watts, Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs, visited the City Campus of the College of Science, Technology and Applied Arts of Trinidad and Tobago (COSTAATT) on July 11, 2025, to deliver remarks to students enrolled in Healthcare Training Programmes.

Approximately 70 students in the Patient Care Assistant (Disability Care) and Emergency Medical Technician programmes attended. Running from March to August 2025, the training equips participants with essential skills for patient care and emergency response. The students will now begin internships at hospitals throughout Trinidad starting next week.

As the largest provider of healthcare training in Trinidad and Tobago, COSTAATT delivers accredited programmes supported by state-of-the-art facilities and experienced faculty committed to developing a skilled, compassionate workforce.

Minister Watts commended the students for their commitment to serving their communities and reflected on the vital role they will play in shaping the future of healthcare in Trinidad and Tobago, stating:

“Continue to push through so that you can become the new beacons of hope we look to in our time of need, and let us together build a healthcare system that sees ability in every person, and finds courage in every challenge.”

Permanent Secretary (Ag.) Narine Charran and other senior members of the Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs accompanied the Minister during the visit.

During an impromptu meeting with the Minister and his team, Dr. Keith Nurse, President of COSTAATT, highlighted the importance of inter-agency collaboration, stating:

“As the leading provider of skills-based and applied learning needed for the burgeoning Youth Economy, COSTAATT is dedicated to preparing a workforce with the practical knowledge and future skills needed to excel in today’s evolving landscape. Strengthening our collaboration with the Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs ensures that more young people have access to high-quality training and opportunities to make a meaningful impact in their communities.”
