Chaguanas, Trinidad and Tobago – March 20, 2024 – The Chaguanas Campus of the College of Science, Technology and Applied Arts of Trinidad and Tobago (COSTAATT) was abuzz with excitement today as 200 eager students and 20 teachers from St. Charles High School embarked on a journey of discovery, within the walls of tertiary-level education.
From 9am to 1pm, the students were treated to an immersive experience, gaining insights into the various academic offerings and professional opportunities available at COSTAATT. The event aimed to provide the students with a glimpse into the world of higher education, igniting their curiosity for their future academic and professional endeavours.
Divided into ten (10) groups, the students were guided through a series of engaging and interactive presentations by various schools and academic departments. Some highlights of the day included:
Digital Media: Students had the unique opportunity to use professional DSLR cameras and a mini- crash course on how to edit using Adobe Photoshop courtesy of the Ken Gordon School of Communication, Creative and Digital Media.
Musical Exploration: The Department of Creative Industries and Culture provided students with hands-on experience singing on the microphone and playing musical instruments such as the steel pan and drum kit, fostering an appreciation for the rich cultural heritage of Trinidad and Tobago.
Academic Offerings: Students learned about the diverse array of short courses and certificates offered by COSTAATT, exploring potential pathways for their future academic pursuits.
Scientific Discoveries: In the natural sciences laboratory, students delved into the world of science, gaining hands-on access to radiographic scans and observing blood cells through a microscope, fostering a passion for scientific inquiry.
Healthcare Simulation: Interacting with COSTAATT’s state-of-the-art nursing simulation dummies, students gained valuable insights into the healthcare profession and its critical role in society.
ICT Advancements: In the computer labs, students were introduced to the various ICT programmes, exploring the ever-evolving landscape of technology and innovation.
Exploring Social Sciences: Through interactive sessions highlighting the differences between Social Work and Psychology, students gained a deeper understanding of these professions and explored potential career avenues.
Environmental Awareness: Engaging in an interactive game table, students learned about the benefits of Environmental Studies, emphasizing the importance of sustainability and conservation.
