• COSTAATT Faculty Convocation 2024 Highlights Collaboration, Innovation, and Faculty Excellence

    The College of Science, Technology, and Applied Arts of Trinidad and Tobago (COSTAATT) recently hosted its annual Faculty Convocation under the theme “Building Bridges: Collaboration and Innovation.” This gathering spotlighted the institution’s commitment to fostering a collaborative and forward-thinking environment.

    Dr. Keith Nurse, President of COSTAATT, delivered his address titled “Lean into your Power.” His presentation focused on the College’s strengths, including its hybrid teaching model, accessible campus locations, and integration of technology and entrepreneurship within its curriculum. Dr. Nurse emphasised that COSTAATT’s commitment to applied learning, sustainability, and innovative approaches places the institution at the forefront of higher education in the Caribbean.

    Vice President of Academic Affairs, Dr. Naseem Koylass, warmly welcomed attendees and reinforced the importance of collaboration and innovation in education. She highlighted developments in curriculum, educational technology, and faculty achievements and introduced the upcoming COSTAATT Faculty Senate, which will support faculty governance and innovation.

    Several faculty members shared examples of the transformative work being done at COSTAATT:

    · Ms. Nicole Wills presented the “Flipped Classroom Model” for student-centred learning in Caribbean higher education.

    · Dr. Kevin Peters discussed the success of the “Link-Up” Programme, which provides college-level education and reintegration opportunities for formerly incarcerated individuals.

    · Ms. Abigail Guzman and Ms. Kim Kendall DeSilva demonstrated how AI tools are being used to support listening comprehension in Spanish classes.

    · Ms. Anuradha Singh and Mrs. Shashiprabha Moralli presented the Lab Waste Management Project at COSTAATT’s Chaguanas Campus, which prioritises sustainable innovation.

    In her keynote address, Dr. Sharmila Harry, Lecturer at the School of Education, UWI-St. Augustine underscored diversity as a key driver of innovation and congratulated COSTAATT on its impactful local and international collaborations in academia and the community.

    The event concluded with insightful presentations from COSTAATT’s academic deans, highlighting the College’s efforts to attract non-GATE revenue. Additionally, commendations were given to outstanding faculty members, including Mr. Christian Virgil, Mr. Sajid Hamid, Dr. Ambica Medine, and Ms. Kathryn Mc Connie, in recognition of their professional achievements.
