COSTAATT Expands Regional Reach: Strengthening Education and Workforce Development in Guyana
As COSTAATT approaches its 25th anniversary in October 2025, the institution is expanding its regional footprint, reinforcing its commitment to high-quality education and global academic partnerships. Guided by its strategic pillar, Global Pathways, the College is forging new connections that align with its mission to deliver internationally competitive education and applied learning experiences that prepare students for the workforce.
From January 28 to February 1, 2025, COSTAATT’s leadership team, led by President Dr. Keith Nurse, engaged with key stakeholders in Guyana to strengthen collaborations in education, industry, healthcare, and diplomacy. These initiatives are part of the College’s broader vision to equip Caribbean learners with future-ready skills and to support regional economic development through education and workforce training.
During the visit, Dr. Nurse and Dean Lalita Ramlal-Chirkoot introduced COSTAATT to the Guyanese market via The National Communications Network (NCN), emphasising the institution’s role in bridging education and industry. In discussions with the Tourism and Hospitality Association of Guyana (THAG), the delegation explored workforce-training initiatives that align with the region’s growing service economy.
COSTAATT’s commitment to applied learning was central to these discussions. The College ensures that all students gain hands-on experience through internships and real-world projects, fostering work-ready graduates who can immediately contribute to industry. The institution’s longstanding dedication to academic excellence is reflected in its diverse international partnerships, which provide students with access to global expertise and best practices.
Strengthening its academic ties, COSTAATT advanced its collaboration with JTW Institute of Management, laying the foundation for a September 2025 student intake. The College also met with Prof. Paloma Mohamed Martin, Vice Chancellor of the University of Guyana, to discuss joint initiatives and the evolving landscape of higher education in the Caribbean, further solidifying COSTAATT’s regional academic influence.
COSTAATT’s outreach extended into Guyana’s key economic sectors. In talks with Guyana Sugar Corporation (GuySuCo), the team explored strategies for staff development and agri-business training, ensuring that professionals in the sugar industry potentially have access to modern expertise and skills. Similarly, discussions with Chief Medical Officer Dr. Narine Singh focused on healthcare workforce development, aligning with Guyana’s expanding medical sector and the establishment of six new regional medical centres.
The College also reinforced diplomatic and educational collaboration through a meeting with His Excellency Conrad Enill, Trinidad and Tobago’s High Commissioner to Guyana. Additionally, engagements with Texila American University (TAU) provided opportunities to enhance medical education and training, with COSTAATT representatives touring TAU’s campus and interacting with students, including several from Trinidad and Tobago.
These strategic engagements mark an important milestone in COSTAATT’s regional and international expansion. As the College celebrates 25 years of academic excellence, its Regional Engagement initiative will continue to foster cross-border partnerships, world-class training, and applied learning experiences, ensuring that Caribbean students remain competitive in an evolving global economy.
