The College of Science, Technology and Applied Arts of Trinidad and Tobago (COSTAATT) and Monroe College signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on February 24, 2023, at the Office of the President of Monroe College in New Rochelle, New York. Dr Keith Nurse, President of COSTAATT, and Mr. Marc Jerome, President of Monroe College signed the agreement, which has a duration of five years.
The primary goal of the MoU is to facilitate the seamless transfer of COSTAATT students pursuing associate degrees to Monroe College bachelor’s degrees, particularly in areas where similar programs do not exist at COSTAATT. Additionally, the agreement seeks to enable COSTAATT students pursuing bachelor’s degrees to transfer to Monroe College to complete a Master’s of Business Administration degree. The collaboration between the two institutions will also promote the creation of foreign work/study opportunities for students and faculty from both institutions.
Both institutions also agreed to share information and opportunities that will lead to faculty development and the strengthening of curricula at both institutions. This collaboration aims to create an educational ecosystem that will enhance the student experience and provide opportunities for students to acquire skills and knowledge that will prepare them for the ever-changing demands of the global economy.
Dr Keith Nurse, President of COSTAATT, expressed his satisfaction with the MoU, stating that it is a significant step towards providing opportunities for Trinidad and Tobago students to access quality education abroad. He added that the partnership will help bridge the skills gap in Trinidad and Tobago’s workforce by providing opportunities for students to acquire skills and knowledge that are in high demand in the global economy.
Mr. Marc Jerome, President of Monroe College, echoed Dr. Nurse’s sentiments, saying that the partnership between COSTAATT and Monroe College will provide students with a pathway to success. He expressed his belief that this partnership will create new opportunities for students, academically and professionally.
The signing of the MoU represents a significant milestone that broadens the collaboration between the two institutions which was initiated in 2009. This partnership is expected to have a positive impact on the education sector in Trinidad and Tobago and provide opportunities for students to pursue their academic and professional goals.
