Port of Spain, June 4, 2024 – The 13th Annual COSTAATT Entrepreneurship Week officially commenced yesterday with a grand opening ceremony and poster competition at the auditorium of the National Library and Information System Authority (NALIS), 23 Abercromby Street, Port of Spain.

The event began with a warm welcome from Dr. Naseem Koylass, Vice President of Academic Affairs at COSTAATT. She greeted guests, students, faculty, and members of the business community, highlighting the hard work and entrepreneurial spirit of the final year students in the BBA Management and Entrepreneurship program. “This gathering is a celebration and showcase of our students’ dedication and creativity,” said Dr. Koylass. She emphasized the pioneering role of the program since its inception in 2009 and the significance of this year’s in-person event after the pandemic.

Dr. Kyra Mc Gowan-Santana, Dean of the School of Business and Digital Technologies, praised the resilience of COSTAATT staff, faculty, and students in maintaining the event virtually during the pandemic. She expressed her excitement about the return to a physical event, which allows for greater community engagement. Dr. Mc Gowan-Santana also introduced a new feature of this year’s event: the expanded “Research Presentation Day,” set for June 5th at 10 am, where students, faculty, and alumni will present their business research.

Ms. Zoe Anne Peters, President of the COSTAATT Student Council, extended her best wishes to the participants, urging them to showcase their innovative spirits. This sentiment was echoed by Ms. Jade St. John, a final year student representative, who thanked her lecturers, especially Dr. Ambica Medine, for their unwavering support and inspiration.

Dr. Medine, Senior Lecturer at the School of Business and Digital Technologies, concluded the ceremony by discussing the broader implications of entrepreneurship. She emphasized that the COSTAATT approach is about fostering a mindset that creates change and value in various sectors, including the social sector to address global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The opening ceremony set an inspiring tone for the week, with participants encouraged to explore the innovative posters on display, some of which focus on social enterprises and business initiatives.
