Programme Description
This certificate programme was developed as a foot wetting introduction into music. It is intended to focus on persons who prefer a short interactive programme where one can perform while learning. It comprises of 21 credits and provides a much needed opportunity for exposure to different qualities and styles of performance which will impact the music culture of both Trinidad and Tobago. It also enlightens the individual to the field of music where there are several areas of instrument concentrations. Hence, this program is designed with a core and one area of specialization to cater to different instrument specializations. The ensemble courses contained in the certificate programme, provide participants with experiential learning in a controlled environment to ensure that a very high quality of performance is attained. As such, students will be required to perform in one ensemble which must complement the instrument chosen for applied study. It is important to note that there is no piano ensemble. Individuals who choose to study piano will be required to participate in another ensemble. All applicants will be required to pass an audition to qualify for entry into this program.
Requirements
All applicants to the programme are required to pass an audition. It would be an asset to have 3 CSEC (CXC)/GCE passes including English Language.
Mature Entry: Applicants over 25, with a minimum of 5 years’ relevant work experience are also considered for admission. Such candidates must submit detailed curriculum vitae and a portfolio of their work with the application form. The Department may also conduct interviews to determine the candidate’s readiness to pursue the certificate programme.
