Programme Description

Graduates of this programme qualify for employment in a variety of professional positions in schools, public, academic and special libraries or in any other organization engaged in library-related and information management activities. The course content covers areas such as management of libraries and information centres, library organisation, library reference services, technical services in libraries, media management, library standards and practices. This programme allows for the creation of information professionals who are equipped to manage the regional information assets unique to our region in its distinctive offerings of caribbeana, user services, cataloguing and classification as examples that are specific to the regional needs. This programme also addresses the cultural and informational needs of our regional communities. This programme was developed in partnership with NALIS. This programme allows for the graduate to becoming a librarian or allow them to be promoted to the role of a librarian.
Requirements
Minimum entry into the Bachelor Programme is five (5) CSEC passes with grades I, II or III including Math and English. Students with less than five (5) but more than three (3) CSEC will be allowed to enter the Compass programme to achieve the level of development needed to begin a tertiary level course of study.
Applicants with relevant “A” Level or CAPE passes with grades A or B at GCE “A” Levels or I or II at CAPE can be considered for advanced standing through exemptions or transfer of credits.
Mature Entry: Applicants 25 years of age and over, with a minimum of 5 years’ relevant work experience are also be considered for admission. Such candidates must submit a detailed curriculum vita with an application for admission.
COMPASS: Students completing the institution’s COMPASS programme and meeting the relevant standards can gain entry to the Bachelor degree programme.
Transfer Students – Students currently enrolled in an associate degree offered by COSTAATT or another institution or a bachelor’s degree programme can be considered for admission as transfer students and seek advanced standing in the BSC programme.
