Programme Description
This general IT degree provides students with a well-rounded knowledge of the fundamental skills necessary to develop and maintain the changes required in the dynamic and challenging information technology field. The graduate will have the advantage of being able to work in diverse environments throughout the information technology industry. The practical knowledge gained from the programme provides a foundation of information technology skill-sets that can be used in the fields of IT Project Manager, IT Teacher, Java Developer, Business Analyst, Database Administrator, Software Implementation Analyst, Applications Architect, Windows Administrator, Enterprise Architect or any number of fields within the industry.
Requirements
Minimum five (5) CSEC/GCE O’ Level subjects, inclusive of English A and Mathematics, Grades 1,2,3* or A, B, C. *Grade 3 accepted if attained in June 1998 and beyond.
Applicants with relevant “A” Level or CAPE passes with grades A or B at GCE “A” Levels or I or II at CAPE can be considered for advanced standing through exemptions or transfer of credits.
Applicants with an Associate Degree with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 can be admitted with advanced standing and transfer of credit.
Mature Entry – Applicants over 25, with a minimum of 5 years’ work experience in the IT Support field may also be considered for admission to the programme. Such candidates must submit detailed curriculum vitae with the application form. The department may also conduct interviews to determine candidate readiness to pursue the BSC. Information technology. Students using this option for entry must pursue the award of credit for experiential/workplace learning by accessing the College’s Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition Services (PLAR). They will be awarded PLAR credits where applicable.
Transfer Students – Students currently enrolled in an associate degree offered by COSTAATT or another institution or a bachelor’s degree programme can be considered for admission as transfer students and seek advanced standing in the programme.
