Programme Description

This programme is unique in its relevance to the marketplace as it combines theoretical analysis with practical industry-immersion. This degree takes cognizance of the constitutional foundation of freedom of expression, freedom of the press and its pillars of responsibility, accuracy, balance and fairness. It offers students not only expanded knowledge, but the opportunity for growth in personal development. It aims to produce change agents who, having moved seamlessly into newsrooms across the country can begin to lift the standard of news gathering and reporting to the heights of excellence.
Requirements
Minimum five (5) CSEC/GCE O’ Level subjects, inclusive of English A and Mathematics, Grades 1,2,3* or A, B, C. *Grade 3 accepted if attained in June 1998 and beyond.
Mature Entry: Applicants over 25, with a minimum of 5 years’ relevant work experience are also considered for admission. Such candidates must submit detailed curriculum vitae and a portfolio of their work with the application form. The Department may also conduct interviews to determine the candidate’s readiness to pursue the degree programme.
At the Chair’s discretion, some applicants can use successful completion of the Certificate in Journalism to enter the BA Journalism programme.
