Programme Description
The Associate in Arts degree in Literatures in English provides students with exposure to and a critical understanding of the major literary genres, through the examination of acclaimed works and authors in diverse and broad genre areas. The degree also hones and focuses critical thinking and writing/communication skills. These studies are complemented by general education courses drawn from a wide range of disciplines, creating a solid foundation for students who wish to pursue studies in the discipline at bachelor’s level and in post-graduate studies or for language and literature teachers who wish to enhance their knowledge base in the field. This associate degree programme is also suitable for students who wish to pursue careers and/or further study in the areas of journalism, advertising and the communications industry.
Requirements
Minimum five (5) CSEC/GCE O’ Level subjects, inclusive of English A and Mathematics, Grades 1,2,3* or A, B, C. *Grade 3 accepted if attained in June 1998 and beyond. English B will be considered as an asset.
Mature Entry: Mature students over twenty-five years of age may be allowed entry if they have three CSEC/GCE O’ Level subjects, one of which must be English A or equivalent—and can give evidence through the College’s Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) system of having the required skills and knowledge that would allow them to successfully complete this programme of study.
