This course introduces you to the techniques of newsgathering, the standard rules of news writing, elements of news judgment and to the guidelines used for effective interviewing. It is very practical in nature and will make you very effective in determining and reporting the news. Emphasis is placed on news accuracy and catering for the interest of readers and keeping faith with the ethics of the profession and the needs of editors. It makes you proficient in the “inverted pyramid” style of news reporting and demonstrates the importance of using in-house style guides such as those used by the New York Times and other media houses.

Applicants seeking admissions to this short course must be sixteen (16) years and over.
