Art History
Art History
In general, this course will introduce students to developments in artistic expression through the major art movements in the Western art world from Ancient Art to the Modern Realist. Due to the limited time frame (one semester) this will be an introductory-level survey course since students deserve exposure to as much of the richness the discipline embraces as is possible. This course will allow students to see the development of art chronologically within each specific movement, and requires no pre-requisites. Through lectures and required reading this course will demonstrate the impact of and relevance of the artists in various art movements in the history of art. Understanding the chronology of art and distinguishing the differences in time periods and cultures are fundamental to understanding the significances of the works of art studied in this course. Local and Regional Art and Artists will be emphasized in this course.
